This year marked the 58th annual Chilton 4th of July Block Party. The street shuts down. The kids dress up for a morning parade. Parents set up games and a pinanta. Immediately following is a neighborhood BBQ and volleyball tournament. And then a second BBQ in the evening to finish off what wasn't eating at lunch time. Neighbors on the east side of the street invite their west side neighbors to watch Bay Area fireworks from their back yards.
This is how we grew up. It's great to belong to a real community where neighbors know you and look out for you. We made a lot of friends. It was a great start to what will be wonderful years here.
